It is clear Putin is totally off the planet. It is also clear the West has more or less betrayed Ukraine. And Johnson, even now, the head of a political group awash with Russian funds, wants to protect those same Russian funds in London, as much as possible. That hasn't done anything to help matters. Comments from some of his Government ministers about centuries old wars with Russia, are quite appalling, too.

Well it is all being blamed on Russia, because it is all Russia's fault.
However, things like Cost of Living here, in UK is of course the tory Government's fault. But this new Ukraine War is certain to make everything much worse for everyone. But we can't be unaware it also helps keep Johnson in power, but that is of secondary importance just now, however much we don't like it. The tories will simply not remove BJ at this moment in time. So, Russia has a lot to answer for here, too. Damn them!!

sometimes something comes along that just blows all other concerns out of the water. the same thing with our personal lives, particularly healthwise.
as for clive myrie on bbc last night. i've been wondering about him for a while and whether he's up to the job. but last night he's standing there in kyviv having a pop at zelinszy, the ukraine leader. making fun of him, because he's put on army gear, saying he was an actor and didn't know what to do. well would you know what to do myrie ?

looks like it's not going to plan for rootn tootn
08:33 The UK’s armed forces minister said Russia had failed to achieve its initial objectives – and fighting outside Kyiv was limited to Russian special forces units.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, James Heappey said Russian aims to take key Ukrainian cities had not been successful. He said the UK did not believe Russian claims that it had taken the southeastern city of Melitopol.
“The Ukrainian resistance to the Russian advance appears extraordinary. All of Russia’s day one objectives of Kharkiv, Kherson , Mariupol, Sumy and even Melitopol, which the Russians are claiming to taken but we can’t see anything on that, are still all in Ukrainian hands.
“The fighting on the outskirts of Kyiv overnight, we understand to just be Russian spetsnaz special forces and pockets of paratroopers. The reality is the armoured columns coming down from Belarus and the north to encircle Kyiv are still way off, because they have been held off by this incredible Ukrainian resistance.

Not sure I've heard of anything like this before. It opens up the possibility of western soldiers being sent to help as civilian volunteers, therefore not NATO forces which would spark WW3

The UK Government response has proven well short of all the great promises it gave to the Ukrainians. One tory Govt. Minister suggested the Ukrainians can pick berries in UK farms!!! They are allowing planes to take off from UK airports to Russia. Allowing oil tanker ships to come into Scotland and refuel oil. Yeah, the tories haven't a clue what they are doing. Most of us here with plenty experience of UK Govt, are not that much surprised!

That awkward moment when the US/U.K governments talk about respecting the sovereignty of other countries.

That awkward moment when the US/U.K governments talk about respecting the sovereignty of other countries. Remember Donald Rumsfeld and the NeoCons? Their driving principle was that the spread of Americanism was ‘for the common good’ and would benefit the World. It really was like an evangelical crusade (with a fair spattering of ‘god people’). They got to decide who the bad guys were. (e.g. I don’t believe Saddam Hussein embraced McDonalds culture as fully as he could have done) Quite alarming!

I found this explanation of the war convincing. Like most wars I guessed it was probably about £££ and who controls resources. It turns ou there are competing interests among oligarchs. Who'd have guessed ? Quite a watchable american fellow explaining. not too far up his own backside like some of these american chaps
