Trying to renew my blue badge but local council are asking me to fill in a further assessment form which I didn't need to do last time plus it doesn't really cover mental health in the questions. When I got my pip award I got 10 points for following and planning a journey and I thought that was enough for the bb. So any advice would be appreciated.

I recently did mine and wasn’t expected to provide anything beyond my award letter. You might find this link useful? Are you in Scotland? www.gov.uk/government/publications/blue-badge-can-i-get-one/can-i-get-a-blue-badge

Just had a quick look through that link you sent Grundle and seemingly in Scotland I would need 12 points for following and planning a journey whilst in England you only need 10. But what I don't understand is why I have had one since about 2017 and couldn't get a new one because of covid and now local council want me to fill in a further assessment form which might include getting an assessment from the council. It just seems like a lot of stress and anxiety to get a bb that I already had.

If you got it last time and it is a renewal ALL you just have to provide copy of the PIP letter award and new good looking photo of yourself photocopy of passport from what i recall. fill in first 3 parts tick and sign last pages. YOU CAN ALSO CALL bb office at council and they can help you whilst you or support workers fill it in via the phone call to them. RE: 10 points for following and planning a journey YES but they try to make it hard at times depending on what person is on the BB phone, as they talk via a script. Believe it or not you can also get it without the 10 points. A person may also be eligible under the hidden (non-visible) criteria if they have a condition or disability, causing them to severely struggle with journeys between a vehicle and their destination, or be a risk of serious harm to themselves or others which could manifest as one or more of the following behaviours;Like most things they try to put you off. but would a Ptsd victim, Anxiety, Autism, learning difficult, MPD, Neurology, respiratory, Eating disorders etc etc etc et etc be able to get a BB absolutely even with no points. WE dont do gossip we do facts with people we have helped get it. you tube (blue badge for mental health) Applying for a Blue Badge // My Experience YT www.wirral.gov.uk/parking-roads-and-travel/parking/blue-badges-and-disabled-parking/new-blue-badge-eligibilitywww.wirral.gov.uk/parking-roads-and-travel/parking/blue-badges-and-disabled-parking/new-blue-badge-eligibility#wgSM-1this one is helpful to see what the MH BB one looks like Blue Badge Application Form Mental Disorder or Cognitive Impairment.pdf www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2018-09/Blue%20Badge%20Application%20Form%20Mental%20Disorder%20or%20Cognitive%20Impairment.pdfpipinfo.net/activities/planning-and-following-journeys duck duck go go blue badge for mental health Dont be overwhelmed with the links BTW sometimes they BB may need letters of support to show your conditions the same med etc support letters you sent to DWP? if you want to provide further evidence = This is usually on the 1st BB application but can also be dependent of Council criteria etc.

I know that in recent years, rules changed for certain things, like needing a renewed Entitlement Card (bus pass) etc, they had to have a Disability benefit, where before, that wasn't an essential criteria. A Doctor's letter was usually sufficient. Another thing being a person with a Hearing Loss problem for example, had to have it above a certain level, higher than previously, so I am sure more than a few folks have lost that buss pass, either because they found themselves below the newer levels, and /or don't get a Disability benefit, such as PIP/ESA etc. One other nuisance being that they stopped automatically sending out reminders for those who had to renew such Disability passes, and it was up to the individual to notify the Authorities they need a renewed card. That is certainly how it was for City of Glasgow. I wonder if those needing other things, like Blue Badge for cars, have had similar hurdles, and this might be a part of the problem you are facing just now. However, the point about renewing the Bus Pass only applied to those needing the Disability card, and not to over 60s, who would still automatically get it, unless pensioner (or person over 60) required a companion card. That would have to go thru the form filling process to verify it was necessary!

Would you clarify this please. Who’s WE? What do you mean by ‘gossip’. If you’re an authority on these matters feel free to say so. Thanks.

Great points gordo. They have made buss pass's really hard to get and the threshold and criteria harder, Does feels more complicated to be able to apply. Forms forms evidence more evidence and the fee's.

I've just renewed mine, when I did the initial application they wanted other evidence so my daughter said download the form and she will fill it in. She bought it back to me and I posted it about the 23rd Jan, on the 11th of Feb I got an email saying it had being granted and I would receive it within 10 days, just before the old one expired. I received it on the 17th Feb and she had put in that I used a mobility scooter because I'd had a stroke in late 2018. I find it strange that although it's the UK you would need more or less points to get the award of the badge. I just supplied a copy of the award letter, a photo and I think some other info though I'm not sure, the date on the badge is until the 21/2/25.
