Johnson wants to stay in power for it's own sake and he might have the power to bring down The Tories. I don't think he even is a Tory. He's simply out for himself at all times. Brexit was an example. he never believed in it at all. But he saw the direction the wind was blowing. They are trying to get rid of him but he has the power to call an election. he might well do it. Reasoning that if I go down you are all coming with me ! www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jul/06/michael-gove-boris-johnson-more-ministers-resign

I doubt the tories would allow a snap General Election just now, with Johnson in charge, as they fear possibly losing it. But just as with the chaotic Theresa May administration, there really ought to be a General Election.
However, the chances of Johnson staying on are very slim, and in fact, look like he will have no choice but to be forced out. But as has been well made clear, Johnson himself has no intentions of going, and in refusing point blank, he will indeed be doing much damage to the Conservative Party which could take a while to recover. But as we have all observed, the tories brought this on themselves. And precious few have sympathy for them. How it plays out, we will see.
But it is very clear too, Johnson himself has misunderstood how the tories will react to him, if they thought he was going to do any more damage. He thinks he is some kind of Presidential figure due to his 2019 election win, but the reality is that his position isn't entirely due to the general electorate, but by the consent of the MPs and his Party. When that consent goes, he has to also go. If he tries to stay on, then that plunges UK into a total crisis, and he takes on the image almost of a dictator refusing to leave Office regardless of anyone. UK has not seen that situation happen perhaps in centuries.
Most political commentators, tho, are of the opinion Johnson will be replaced before too long. If he still refuses to go, the tories will make him go. It's a matter of time.

I think in the end, it'll have to be the old baked bean who tells him. What if there aren't enough MP's willing to fill in all those positions that have been vacated by resignations. That's when he'll have to scoot to the palace and say he can't form a government and can he call an election. At which point the queen says. well your party can but only with you gone.

Once we get a PM that isn’t tainted by Brexit that can go in the bin too.

I can see Johnson doing a Trump and squatting and barricading himself in No.10.
Need to drag him out by his ankles and dump him in a skip!
