Boris Johnson has resigned as Conservative Party Leader.
But, but, but (sigh)............
He wants to stay as Prime Minister 'till tories elect their new Party Leader!
That has not gone down well at all. In fact, there's fury amongst many a tory MP.
Most want him gone as Prime Minister right now. His resignation waffle (we can't dignify it as a speech) was considered atrocious by many, and that has also insulted tory MPs into the bargain!
But they were well warned and even still, when they did have the chance to remove him the other month, didn't.
So they've brought all this utter chaos on themselves, and they know it, and are now bitterly, bitterly sorry.
I don't see Johnson hang on as long as he hopes to. For otherwise, the political turmoil just continues, and everything goes from bad to worse, including the Economy, with Sterling at less than $1.20. the lowest for several years. Political chaos of this magnitude is never a good thing for any place, and UK is not in a good place at the moment, and Brexit is making it worse.
And yet, what does Labour do, in all this turmoil, they adopt the same hard tory Brexit which is helping to make it worse, and actually doesn't do much for their prospects the way they are hoping for.
Sir Starmer blew it on Monday himself, with his no to Europe discourse. Tories are in meltdown, and Starmer offers nothing better to counter them!
Oh well. I hope for an early General Election, but that remains to be seen.
At any rate, it won't be called by Johnson. That will be left to his successor. And just s'posing Labour, SNP, etc force snap General Election, you can bet the tories will definitely force Johnson out, as they know they can't have him still in Downing Street in such an event.
We will have to watch how it all plays out. However I doubt there will be too much, if any change for most of us, regardless, except that we know Cost of Living Crisis will get worse. Of that, we can certainly be sure!
