It is utterly insane! The tory Party brought this entirely upon itself. The MPs who put forward Elizabeth Truss over Penny Mordaunt are to blame as much as the tory faithful who voted Truss over Sunak. Now, we know the real reason many of them didn't want Sunak, and it was nothing to do with him resigning from the Johnson Administration! As for the MPs who gave their support to the hopeless Truss, they wanted their Tax cuts and they were the Brexit extremists. So, they got what they wanted, then they never got what they wanted!
They were not expecting the furious Financial backlash, nor the political backlash. And they certainly were not expecting to see what they thought they had, suddenly taken away from them within 2 weeks, and now the lot of it is gone completely, and so too will be gone, will be many of those very MPs!
It is one thing to change a Prime Minister in the course of a single Parliament, but two? And in these circumstances? That is just unacceptable. We had an unelected, and very, very rich "Lord" on Radio Scotland this morning claiming the general Public were not interested in the internal affairs of the Conservative Party. Mr "Lord" Offord, who is now part of the UK Govt, after at least 5 attempts at being elected to either Westminster or Holyrood and failing each time, was basically saying, all this was really not that important to most of us and we had other things to occupy us. But being rather well to do, he was fond of giving away a fair amount of his money to the tories, and lo and behold, out of nowhere, he is made a "Lord" and appointed to the Government all at once!
There really must be a General Election now. And if the new King, Charles III had any sense, and was worth His salt, He'd be making the Government resign so we can have an Election. As Monarch and Head of State, He has that Authority, sure? He should use it! And if he doesn't either have the power or doesn't use what influence He does have what's the point of having a useless King? None!
EDIT: King Charles, does in fact have the power to call a General Election. And in the present circumstances, the King is the only person who actually can call one. He can call for a General Election whether the tories wanted it or not.

Johnson pulls out of bid to be Prime Minister! It looks like Rushi Sunak could well be Prime Minister by this time tomorrow. I can't see Penny Mordaunt to get the votes she needs. However, if she carries on, she will do enormous damage to the Conservative Party. from BBC News.................... www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-63368396

Your assessment is probably spot on gordo though another scenario could be along the lines of Johnsons supporters backing Mordaunt on a "stop sunak" style ticket. After all if she gets close to his number why should she step aside ? In which case it goes to these idiots in the countryside who will most likely pick out Mordaunt !
edit at 2pm. IT'S SUNAK.

Glad to see the back of truss. her leaving speech put my back up. She said something along the lines of she doesn't want the government to keep peoples money. Ie a small state. She does not understand public finance and has been taken in by rightwing thinktanks. Less government £ means NO NHS. Thats where she wanted to take us. A criminally antisocial and possibly pychopathic and ignorant tool. Good riddance !
