In the last few year this scheme was run by the energy companies, but this year the Government has taken over the running of it and changed the qualifying benefits. They used to include DLA and PIP, but both have been removed as has Contribution based ESA so many disabled people will now not get the extra £150 to help with heating costs.

It looks like they are not giving the inflation based rise on non means tested benefits either. Whether they ever did I'm not too sure. But one thing I can tell you they are about to reprise are the attacks with their foul mouths on "welfare scroungers" living on the "hard earned tax" of the workers. The Daily Zeigheil (Mail) have already fired the starting gun on that little ploy with their headline the other day after the announcement about tax rises and benefits going up with inflation rather than earnings. It's the tory way. Same as the Mafia. Create the pain, then come election time, say you will take it away. By beating up the "welfare scroungers" Mark my words.

I don't get the WHD but I've saved loads of money by reducing my gas usage. I turned down the thermostat to 16 degrees and lowered the temperature of the water, both through the radiators and from the hot water tap down to 39 degrees through the radiators and 40 degrees through the tap. It takes about 50 to 70 minutes to get the flat warm but I can have the heating on for 8 hours and it will only cost me £3.43 for 8 hours usage per day including the SC, whereas if it was set at the default settings it would cost over £18 for the 8 hours usage. I started this in 2020 by lowering the radiator water temp. by 5 degrees and reduced the thermostat by 1 degrees per week. I don't fell the cold and the TRV's are set at maximum in the living room and 1 in the spare bedroom, 2 in the kitchen and three in the maim bedroom and bathroom. If people use gas as their source of heating then try it and see what works for you it might be my settings or a bit higher but it's worth trying as I have done and I am confortable with the settings as they are.
