2 Disabled activists are going to Court to challenge English rail companies plans to close most ticket offices. Only the very largest main station will keep offices open. They complain this discriminates Disabled folks. It is obvious the railway operators, haven't paid the slightest attention to those who have disabilities, and closing these offices will leave a lot of folk in difficulty. There is a host of safety concerns with these plans which have also been ignored, and swept aside. from BBC News.................. www.bbc.co.uk/news/disability-66243143

Personally I don't think the court will side with the disabled people as it's a business decision by the rail companies. Some disabled people have a disabled persons railcard and can book seats online and any assistance they need to board and exit the trains. It could impact the disabled who have needs but have to buy tickets at the last minute but the majority normally book in advance, sometimes using the cheaper tickets offered by the rail companies when they book and adding the discount they can get with their railcard.

It's quite similar to supermarkets closing manned checkouts. A cost cutting exercise that will impact certain groups more. I must admit it took me a while to start using the self service units and I've seen at least one person who needed a worker to scan her shopping at one. When the manned checkouts were there no one would known she needed help. That does matter when it comes to equality.

I shop in Lidl and they don't have self service checkouts yet. I go into Morrisons and I've seen people with full trolleys going through the self service checkouts, as I only buy birthday cards from Morrisons I use the self service checkouts unless all the manned checkouts are in use then I use a manned checkout but have been known to just use the self service checkouts because they are nearer to where the birthday cards section is. For every self service checkout in use they are saving £10.45 per hour or £125 per day in wages.

I wonder what happened to these smart supermarkets they were going to introduce ? Thats all gone a bit quiet. The shelves were to have weight guages and cameras everywhere and you would just go in, fill up your bag and walk out. Your credit card would then be charged automatically with the right amount.
