Up to 2 million could see their power, electric and gas, cut off by power companies, as they cannot afford to pay bills! While the UK Govt. claims it is helping folks, and we get the standard "helping people into work", etc, etc, the Govt ignores the fact that a lot of ppl who are in work, still can't afford to pay energy costs!!! from BBC News.............. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-68060452

It's called self disconnection, people on pre-payment meters should top up a bit more in the summer when they use less electric and gas. Many who use less in the summer cut their payments and wonder why when they top up in winter after they have self disconnected for a day or two that the £money they put on the meter immediately is less when they check the credit, this is because the day or two they were disconnected still incurs SC's so they would put on £10 but only find £8.50 in credit on the meter that's because the meter has taken three days SC's because it was the third day that they topped up.
I won't ever have pre-payment meters, I believe they now the cost is no more than credit meters but when the ex had them she used to drop the gas top up in summer and wonder why it used so much in winter. When I took on her place after her death she was over £4000 in debt to the energy supplier and they tried to make me pay the debt even though we had being divorced for nearly three years so I went to the ombudsman and they found in my favour and awarded me £75 in compensation they had to drop the money owed from the meter, I was only in the place 4 months but I possibly paid more of the debt than I received in compensation.

My daily use of electricity is a joke at the moment, the wife has cut down on the washing to help curb it but its not working, they say its going down in April we will see how much.

My daily use is averaging about 3.8 kWh per day but when the daughter comes down to clean it can go up to more than 11 kWh that day. I think she doesn't know what energy usage is and just turns everything on and leaves it on. I'm now using more energy than when I ditched the tumble dryer for an heated airer some times when she cleans never mind the water usage going up as she leaves taps running for no reason. I call it a low day when she cleans and uses just under 8 kWh of electric that day.
