Dear all, my son is on PIP and has been for a number of years, he's severely disabled and also has mental health issues. He's just been sent a request for a video consultation. This however isn't possible as he doesn't have a phone or Internet at his adapted property. Looking for advice really as last time he had a home assessment due to his poor health but this time he's going to struggle having no technical knowledge or ability to use a video phone or computer.
What options does he have without a phone or Internet? He also isn't able to travel to an assessment centre. I'm panicking as I'm not sure they still do home assessments and I want to help him.

Just phone them and say that he hasn't got a phone phone or internet connection so it isn't possible for him to have a video assessment. A video assessment would require a web camera and even if you have an internet connection many people don't have a web camera. They are assuming that the person has all of these or will buy a web camera to do a video assessment.
You will need your son's permission to do anything on his behalf but if they try and say do you have an internet connection if you say yes that doesn't mean you have a web camera, if they say you could buy a web camera for him to have a video assessment just say no you are not paying for a web camera that might be only used once every few years, even if you can afford a web camera just tell them you're not purchasing one just for a video assessment.

I would have though they had a duty to make allowances for an individual person's situation. I'd contact the PIP folks and explain things to them. And ask they arrange another home visit.
