The Boss of P & O has told MPs he couldn't live on the pay he gives to his workers on the English Chanel route. These seafearers get all of £4 87 an hour. Yet he tries to claim this is more generous than what some other over seas companies by their own sailors!!! This is the guy who fired hundreds of his UK sailors to get cheap paid workers from abroad. A move this present UK Govt, while condemning it, still allowed to happen. Although a new Law is due to come in, making it mandatory for all sailors to be paid the Min Wage of £11 44. So in effect, P & O custcutting and dismissing all those staff, will have been for nothing, in the end, but all those sailors still lost their jobs regardless. But the boss manages to get for himself up to half a million in a year! from BBC News.............. www.bbc.co.uk/articles/ceq3pw038g8o

I suppose it depends on where exactly these ferry workers are living ? As I try to understand the reality of money I realise it's just a series of numbers that in their own right have no meaning outside of what they relate to. £4.87 an hour might be a good wage if your rent was £10 a week for example. If I lend someone £20 and they pay it back am I £20 to the good on receipt ? Not really because I was £20 down on lending it out. I'm back to zero. It's the same when bank loans are repaid. They go to zero. The £ is cancelled. And the same goes for Tax. It cancels out £ spent by the Govt. Ergo spending comes before tax not the other way round as we are conned into believing.
